Shoryukan Dojo, Alaska

Shoryukan Dojo and The UAF Fencing Club hosted a very successful Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu (MJER) iaido seminar weekend (October 10-12), with Martin Simpson Sensei of the Eikoku Roshukai, U.K.

We trained in basics – stance, grip, suburi and nukitsuke, kirioroshi, chiburui, and noto movements; followed by Omori ryu waza (Seiza no Bu  正座之部) and Eishin ryu waza (Tatehiza no Bu  立膝之部). We even had a bit of Tachi Uchi no Kurai.

Martin Simpson Sensei received his Godan ranking from Iwata Norikazu Sensei, founder of the Roshukai.  Iwata Sensei held Menkyo Kaiden in the MJER system, as well as Hachidan Hanshi status before he passed away in 2011.

We plan to continue our iaido training as a Dosokai under the tutelage of Roshukai.

And of course, we continue with our training in Yoshinkan Aikido.
Beginners and students welcome
