Shoryukan Dojo, Alaska
Iaido Seminar!!!
This post is a little
late in coming, but a very special thanks to Martin Simpson Sensei of the
Eikoku Roshukai for a very engaging, demanding, yet highly enjoyable seminar “weekend”
of Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu Iaido (October 9-12). Instead of mindlessly moving
through one technique to the next, we instead focused on themes for the
weekend: hara, use of hips,
posture, and semme. Martin Sensei
chose techniques to emphasize these themes and test our application and
understanding of them. In addition to
Iai, we also practiced some kenjutsu (Tachi Uchi No Karai) from the MJER
curriculum, as well as some Hoyho Niten Ichi Ryu kenjutsu.
With help from the UAF
Fencing Club, we had additional training space and students that enabled us to
train with new people.
Again, a very big thank
you to Martin Sensei to making the long trek to Fairbanks from Manchester, U.K.
Hopefully, we can all do it again next year!
Pictures coming soon…
Shoryukan Dojo also
primarily offers instruction and training in Yoshinkan Aikido developed and
sanctioned by the Yoshinkan Honbu Dojo in Japan, as well with “buki-waza” or
aiki-based weapon movements.
